How can I get passed the "How would you like to pay your California taxes" page that requires either direct deposit or pay by check when I want a California payment plan?

You can select "pay by check" to get past this screen. Making that selection just tells TurboTax that you are not paying your balance at the time of filing.

 

To set up a payment plan for California, visit this FTB webpage for details. It will cost $34 to set up the plan. You can either use their online application at that page or apply by phone.
