If you sent your extension in on time, it should be granted. To confirm receipt, it's easiest if you use software like TurboTax Easy Extension, since you'll get a confirmation from TurboTax within 48 hours.

  • If you use the U.S. mail to send your extension, you'll have to contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to ask about extension status.
  • Currently, you can't do this on the IRS website. Call the IRS customer service number to determine if your request for an extension was received and approved.

How can I find out if TurboTax Online really sent my tax extension to the IRS? I can't find a status anywhere.

In my case, the TuboTax Easy Extension site NEVER sent me a confirmation email.  However, after signing up on the IRS portal website, I did finally confirm that my extension request was indeed received - so a huge relief there.  Now my question is whether the (anticipated) tax  money was ever transmitted to the IRS.  The money is still in my bank account and the IRS portal doesn't show any pending transactions.  So.. was I dreaming that I actually did enter my bank account info on the TuboTax Extension site?  It would help knowing that the site DOES actually send that info to the IRS.  If not, then I need to  make other arrangements.

Have you checked your email spam folder for the confirmation?  And it can take the IRS several days to pull your payment, especially around the deadline time.

I did check my Gmail Junk folder and nothing there.  When I was filing for an extension, the very last page, (as I recall) had a message about an email being sent to address: null - which didn't give me a good feeling about it going thru at all.  But if the TurboTax EZ extension site does have the capability to forward the bank info to the IRS (which I believe you confirmed?), then I think I'm probably ok.. I assumed that surely I could log into my account and there would be some reference to the fact that my extension was filed and had gone thru and later accepted.  Sounds like that info is only available in emails which I'm not receiving.  For others reading this, it would be a good idea to screen shot a few screens to document what took place.   Thanks for the reply!
