A personal residence is not reported on tax return unless it is sold.

When you report your mortgage interest, points, mortgage insurance and real state taxes paid, if the total of your deductions is greater than the Standard Deduction, you might benefit from itemizing.

Even if the total of your deductions is less than the standard deduction, you might be able to itemize on your state return.
