Thanks - your workaround worked! They really need to fix this.
Having the same problem. Software update & reboot did not help. Appears to be a software glitch.
I do not see this error when I try to replicate your situation. In order to take a deeper look at this, I need a diagnostic file, which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send us one by following the directions below:
TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:
*(If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then Send Tax File to Agent”)
It would be helpful if you took a screenshot of your token number.
In the meantime, try the workaround suggested by hftaylor01, which seems to have worked for several customers.
I was able to work around the issue by going to the "Forms View", choosing Tax & Int Wks, then adding the personal property tax to item 3c (other personal property tax).
Yes I found that answer earlier in the thread and it did work. However it's still a bug that the figure can't be entered here.
Yes that recommended answer did work for me. However if I go back to the deductions screen, having entered a figure on the form, and click on UPDATE under Cars and other things you own: Property taxes I no longer get the "Hit a Snag" message - instead I get an incorrect message that I have maxed out the $10,000 limit on itemized state and local tax deductions. It looks like somebody tried to fix the bug and introduced another one instead.
From looking at your file, it appears that you have entered your 1098 Home Mortgage information twice, so that both your home mortgage interest and your real estate taxes are doubled. If you delete one of these, your total state and local taxes will not exceed the $10,000 limit, but the Standard Deduction of $32,300 is higher than the Itemized deductions that you have entered so far, and your tax will be computed using the higher Standard Deduction.
You can remove the extra home mortgage statement by clicking Delete on the Home loan deduction summary.
Thank you. I removed the duplicate entry.
I now get "Thanks, we got all your personal property tax info" when i click on UPDATE under the cars property tax section. I was able to update by going to the form as suggested here, but I do suggest you make this more intuitive. i.e. UPDATE should let you update. It took a lot of time to find the answer.
I was also getting the error. I used the workaround and went a delete the rows that were in the personal supporting details - i had my cars listed. Then I went back to the step-by-step and it opens on that button. 20 minutes wasted
