Help with Schedule H.

I am submitting my personal taxes and already have a Schedule H from a third party servicer that does payroll for my nanny.

When going through the steps in TurboTax to document that schedule H, TurboTax is creating a new schedule H and requiring me to pay the already paid federal taxes.

Is there a way to include my schedule H on my taxes (noting that I've already paid the tax liability) without TurboTax creating a new schedule H and therefore increasing my tax liability?

If you already paid the taxes for your Nanny, in TurboTax, you enter the payments in the Estimated and Other Income Taxes Paid section.

  1. Open or continue your return
  2. Go to the Federal section, then Deductions & Credits
    • You can also search for estimated tax payments and select the Jump to in the search results
  3. Select Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
  4. Select Start or Revisit next to Estimated Tax Payments
  5. Choose Start next to the type of estimated tax payment you'd like to enter
  6. Enter the amount of estimated tax you paid at each of the quarterly due dates
    • If you paid 2021 estimated taxes in 2022, you'll enter just one amount for each state of locality

Thanks for the info below Helen! So I don't need to include the schedule H in my filing at all?

Yes, you will include Schedule H (Form 1040) in your income tax return. Enter the information, from the Schedule H that was provided by your payroll servicer, into TurboTax. The Schedule H shows the tax liability. Entering your estimated taxes shows that you paid the liability.  The two will net out.

Note: If you don't include your Schedule H on your tax return, you'll get a refund of the estimated taxes that you entered since your tax return won't show how much taxes are due in regards to your Nanny.

Forgot to ask your rep who assisted me with my 2022 Fed return--to whom do I mail Schedule H, Form 1040, on behalf of a household employee.  Thank you, Thomas Hearon, [email address removed]

You don't need to mail it to anyone.  It will be filed with your tax return and processed by the IRS just like the rest of your tax return.  It is not something that you need to mail separately.
