Healthcare Penalty exemption for H1B non-resident aliens

I came to US in mid October 2017. Obviously I did not have the health insurance coverage before that. I had the coverage only for the months of Oct - Dec, 2017.

I am filing my ITR as a non-resident alien since I have stayed less than 183 days in US. My question is, will I be eligible for Healthcare penalty exemption for the year 2017-18?

If yes, how do I get the exemption?

Healthcare Penalty exemption for H1B non-resident aliens

Since you are filing a 1040 NR, you are not required to report having any US health insurance on your 2017 1040NR. (Nonresident aliens are not required to have US health insurance.)

For 2018, the new tax law eliminated the penalty for not having US health insurance so no need to worry about any healthcare penalty in 2018.
