If TurboTax won't accept your CSV file, proceed as follows.
Adjust your csv files so the columns are in the same order as on Form 8949.
Put a header with your name tax year and SS Number
Use the summary option and then you can mail in the printout of the CSV files.
See the TurboTax instructions that will pop up.
You would use Category C and/or F since you don't have a 1099-B.
---
At tax time, you have the option to summarize your transactions by Sales Category.
IRS requires details to be listed on your own Form 8949,
or on your own forms (e.g. csv spreadsheet) which have the same information and in the same manner as Form 8949.
Either way, if you choose to summarize, you have to mail the transaction details to the IRS within three business days of IRS accepting your e-Filed tax return.
I appreciate the help but TurboTax claims to support by Coinbase for cryptocurrency tax preparation. It has an upload CSV portion that doesn’t work with the CSV file downloaded from Coinbase.
Yes I have and I used cointracking info, you are able to connect your coinbase csv file on there. Be careful because there's coinbase and coinbase pro make sure you click the right one. To make an account is free. The kick is that this only works if you have 100 sales or less and you going to have to enter everything manually. Make sure you have the 2020 csv file that you got from coinbase and import it. Then once everything is ready you go to the tax report tab and click tax report. Now on the left side under tax calculations make sure you click Calculate tax and gain. You don't need to touch anything else. Make sure on the right it say 01-01-2020 through 12-31-2020. Then you scroll down to where it says Generate a new tax report now! and you click on it. Then you scroll down and to where it says Overview of all created tax reports then you should see a button underneath on the right side that says load report, click it. Scroll until you see Capital Gains Report. You might have to scroll up depending on how the page load. Next to Entries there should be a box, click 100, it should load up everything you have. It will show you how much entries you have at the bottom of the report. If you have more than 100 you might have to pay or you're better off with a third party paying $40-50. There might be a green + sign next to one of your crypto, make sure you fill out that data too. Lastly, click date acquired so you can enter the date of purchased in order (the dates are day, month, year, it can be confusing but the middle number is the month always).
COINTRACKING INFO IS NOT ON TURBOTAX SO YOU CAN'T UPLOAD A CSV FILE, KEEP THAT IN MIND. I TRIED TO UPLOAD THE CSV FILE THROUGH THE COINBASE OPTION AND IT DIDN'T WORK, ONLY MANUAL WORKED.
