2018 Deluxe Desktop version of Turbo Tax from Amazon. 5 federal returns and a download of one state. However, I can only do one return for one state. ???

With the desktop software, you can prepare unlimited federal and state returns (for 1 state) as you need.  You can e-file 5 federal returns and 3 state returns (same state).  Preparation and e-filing are different.  E-files are limited but the preparation of returns is not.  

If you need two states, you will have to purchase the 2nd state separately.  However, once purchased, you can prepare unlimited returns for that state also.  Each state includes 3 free e-files.
