In the Online products there is no charge for a state return in the Free Edition. There is a charge for the state return in the Deluxe, Premier, Self Employed and Live products.
You can review those product offerings here: TurboTax Online Products
In the Desktop CD/Download products there is a charge for a state return in the Basic product. 1 state is included in the Deluxe, Premier and Home & Business products. You can review those product offerings here: https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/
I bought the deluxe version where it states I have 1 state product included. So why am I prompted to be charged when I am trying to file. I have input the license code, so why am I still being charged for state when it is advertised I get 1 free state? Please advise, this is delaying me filing my taxes. Thank you.
Kindest Regards,
Mir Islam
I am sorry, but if your follow this link TurboTax Products, click the 1 state download,
and scroll through the information, you will see that there is a charge to electronically file your state return. There is not charge to prepare it, print it out and mail it, you are charged for Electronically filing.
i have turbotax deluxe cd why am i ma being charged for state return
"TurboTax CD/Download products: Price includes tax preparation and printing of federal tax returns and free federal e-file of up to 5 federal tax returns. Additional fees apply for e-filing state returns...". Ref: Turbotax
There is a lot of confusion about this. For the Desktop version it's a free download of one state PROGRAM, not returns filed. You can prepare unlimited federal and unlimited state returns. Some people need to file in more than one state so they have to buy another state program. You can print and mail the state for free or each state (including the first one) is 19.99 or 24.99 to efile. If you buy the cd at the store the Basic version does not include the state. And Deluxe is available both with and without the state. Because some states don't have an income tax.
