Do we need to fill out and mail Form 8822 to report the address change EVEN IF we have finished the address change through USPS website?
I am helping my spouse file his late tax return for 2015, and we are trying to obtain W-2 forms from the companies he worked for in 2015. He worked for several companies, but some of them closed down and he couldn't get W-2's from them. We lived in state A in 2015. We moved to different state (state B) this year, so we live in state B now.
My spouse filed tax return in 2016 in state A, so his last tax return was done in state A.
We requested Wage and Income Transcript to obtain W-2 information from 2015, using Form 4506-T.
On this form, line 3, we typed our current address in state B, and in line 4, we typed our last address in state A.
Do we still have to fill out Form 8822 and mail to IRS? We already finished the address change from USPS website. We are needing the W-2 forms from 2015, but we are afraid we might not receive it until we send in Form 8822?

In my opinion, it would be wise to go ahead and complete Form 8822 and mail to IRS. Better safe than sorry.
The instructions for the form say, "It takes 4-6 weeks to process a change of address."
