Form 2555 Won't Delete

I said I did not earn any Foreign Income but TurboTax still kept giving me an error stating I incorrectly filled out the Foreign Income section (it would display 0 for the total earned foreign income). After reading similar questions on here, I tried deleting the form through the forms section and it no longer shows up in my list of forms, but still pops up as an error. I tried skipping the error check, but the program will not let me file the return because it keeps saying that is an error. I did check the filing papers (save for personal records) and verified that no Form 2555 was included. This must be a programming error, unless someone knows a workaround to make it stop with the error or just submit my taxes?

Form 2555 Won't Delete

Form 2555 may have 2 forms, one for taxpayer (2555-T) and one for spouse 2555-S.  Delete both

Also, try the following:

  1. Go to Federal Taxes.
  2. Go to Wages and Income.
  3. Scroll down to Less Common Income and click show more.
  4. Scroll down to Foreign Earned Income and Exclusion and click Revisit.
  5. Answer No to the Question "Did You Make Any Money Outside the United States?".

If you entered the wages in the W-2 section, go back to and uncheck the box that you worked outside the US

That did it! I had it checked that I earned money outside the United States in the W-2 section.  Thanks.

Same here. I got through everything (and I am using 1116 instead of 2555). I paid for state efiling. Then got an error that some dates were missing on for 2555-T. I tried deleting the form. It goes away from list but somehow the issue remains, preventing efiling HELP please.

Since we can't see your return in this forum, it would seem that somewhere in your return you indicated you received Foreign Income or Paid Foreign Tax (W-2, 1099-Misc, K-1, 1099-Div, Pension, Rental).

If you paid Foreign Tax on a 1099-Div, for example, TurboTax needs the amount of Foreign Income related to the Foreign Tax you entered.

If none of these apply, if you're using TurboTax Online, try closing the program, clear your Cache and Cookies and re-visit.

Form 2555 Won't Delete

I am using TurboTax Deluxe software (instead of online) to file my return.  I have foreign income but want to use 1116 instead of 2555.  However, the program does not lead me to 1116 directly.  Instead, I have to search for Form 1116 myself and jump to it to fill in.  I got through everything, but the review shows that I have two errors connected with Form 2555 which I did not choose to use.  I have removed 2555 from the list but the errors remain.  I really don't know what went wrong.  Please HELP!

You need to go back to the source data that you were entering when you were planning to use the 2555.  The W2 has a box to check to tell it to carry the data to form 2555 - you need to uncheck that.  If there is anything else that you entered that will carry to 2555 you need to fix it at the source.  If you can't figure out what data you entered that keeps regenerating the error you may have to start the return over.
