Form 2210

I did not file Form 2210; but it turns out I should have.  I received an underpayment of estimated taxes notice from the IRS and a bill.  I assume I can file Form 2210 after the fact (will simply complete it in TurboTax using Forms View, print out the form, and mail it.)  I'll be choosing Reason for Filing C (calculating the penalty using the annualized income installment method).

Two questions:

1)  To be on the safe side, I assume I should pay the bill from the IRS, and it will then give me a refund if my Form 2210 is accepted.  Accurate assumption?

2)  Where do I mail Form 2210, which will be in hard copy?

Thanks.

Form 2210

mail to the address on the notice.

Your choice as to whether to pay.

if the IRS rejects it you'll owe additional penalties and interest until it's paid. The processing time for your 2210 ranges from 30 to over 90 days. Another possibility is that the 2210 does not fully reduce the penalties.

if you pay the IRS should refund any portion not owed
