FOREIGN TAX FILING

Can you file US taxes first and then file an amended return to claim foreign taxes paid on all income that was earned in the United States?  I would be using the Spanish tax treaty that prevents double taxation on all my US income and claiming a foreign tax credit.

Is there any draw back filing this way.

FOREIGN TAX FILING

Hello GCM56

You can file a tax return and then amend it to include any foreign taxes you paid for the same income.

US taxes are on world wide income,  so any invome you declare from a foreign country in the US,  and you paid taxes on that income,  you will be able to claim the credit for foreign taxes paid.  There is no drawback on this scenario.

Thank you!
