Error code IND-901 is usually caused due to a Social Security Administration error. As you stated, they provided you with a letter. Did you provide the letter to the IRS? Also, I would contact the SSA again and make sure they did what they were supposed to do on their end to clear this error.
You should check with the Social Security Administration to make sure their records are accurate. And make sure the IRS has also updated their records to reflect this.
A return will reject with code IND-901 or IND-941-01 when IRS records indicate that the person identified as the primary taxpayer or spouse on the tax return died prior to the tax year shown on the return.
The Primary SSN in the Return Header has been locked because Social Security Administration records indicate the number belongs to a deceased individual. Check the primary taxpayer's name and social security number against the actual social security card.
Thanks for responding. I have done all of that. IRS and SSA are blaming each other and I cannot get out of the loop. This is probably not the right forum; I'm just desperate.
Be persistent. Try contacting TAS again. You can contact them using this link: We’re your voice at the IRS.
We are also having the same problem for the second year...
There is an Attorney's office in PA putting a class action lawsuit together against the SSA
We as well are going on year two of this IRS nightmare. I went physically to the SSA to have the issue fixed on their end. ( of course they said good to go). Asinine amount of time on the phone with probably every representative. Then there is the TAS, which gave me the least amount of information and confidence that our issue will be resolved. My biggest issue with all of this, if I can physically and administratively prove I still freaking exist, why does it have to be another "30-45 Days", "4-6 weeks", "6-8 weeks"!! If I took even a fraction of this time to accomplish any aspect of my job, i would be terminated on the spot.
The only consistency in the whole thing has been the lack of any common logic by any party as well as the typical pre-written, automated answers that continue to not address any of the actual issues.
Apologies, rant over.
I only made an account to comment and inquire about the CA lawsuit and finding out eligibility for individuals outside of PA to be involved.
Respectfully,
Another Annoyed Taxpayer
Every IRS action takes 2 to 9 weeks.
It only takes a few seconds for DOGE to mark you DECEASED.
In your case, something else happened long ago.
It'll probably be time to elect a new POTUS before the case ever gets heard.
