Hello,

My residence address is listed as Maryland (where my parents live), but I started a job in Boston (since July 2022) and I filed tax in Boston for the year 2023. Would there be any penalty for not filing tax in Maryland?

Thank you very much!

Is Maryland your permanent home? Or have you relocated to Massachusetts with the intent to make that your home? Your mailing address doesn't define your tax home.

According to the Maryland Tax website, you are required to file a Maryland tax return if you earned more than $13,850 (filing single) in Maryland. If you didn't earn any income in Maryland, you are not required to file a state tax return. So, no penalty for not filing.
