Filing Extension

Turbotax webpage says " Free Federal Tax Extension available in March"

However, I've been trying to file an extension for 2019 income tax, but I get this error message:

"Unfortunately, the deadline for filing an extension has passed"

Why is this happening?  I am pretty sure that the deadline to file an extension is April 15, 2020.

Any clue about what's going on?

That message is for tax year 2018. The IRS has not yet approved the form for E-file. Once they approve it, TurboTax will be able to E-file it. You can print form 4868 and mail it in to the IRS.

If you want to wait for the E-file option, check the forms availability status.

    • Once the form goes from "unsupported" to "available", under E-file, you'll get the option to E-file.
