I completed my son's return and was charged $19.99 for the state. his is the only one I have done.

It is my understanding that the first state was included in the purchase price. Will I have

to pay 19.99 for my return, also?

The first state is free, that means if you need to fill-up another state you need to pay for it, the federal efile is free, if you want to efile the state you need to pay or you can mail the form

You are using desktop (CD/download) software? You get the software to prepare a state return, but there is an extra fee to e-file the state. You can avoid that extra fee if you print and mail the state instead.
