File rejected- saying my SSN and last name does not match the IRS records- after checking- it does match my IRS records. Second year this is happening

When filing last year- both my federal and state return were rejected- stating that the SSN and Last name did not match IRS records. I signed on the my account on IRS website and my SSN and last name were correct. I was able to file my 2017 Federal, but was told to send my State by mail- which I did, but never received.

Now filing for 2018, I am getting rejected for the same reasons.

What you see in your online account on the IRS web site is not the e-file database that the IRS uses to check e-filed tax returns. Apparently there is an error in the IRS e-file database. The IRS gets the information from the Social Security Administration.

Call Social Security (800-772-1213), or go to a local Social Security office, and see if they have your correct SSN and last name. If not, ask them how you can get it corrected. If they make the correction now, the correction should be in the IRS database in time for you to e-file next year.

If your SSN and last name are correct in the Social Security files, call the IRS (800-829-1040). Tell them what is happening and ask how to get it corrected.
