federal review error "recipient state must be entered"

I am doing the federal review right now and Turbotax came up with the following error on Schedule B for form 1099-DIV for one of my brokerage accounts:

"Recipient state must be entered"

No more information is provided. I don't know what this means or what to do.

Should this be the state I live in?

federal review error "recipient state must be entered"

This issue often occurs due to discrepancy between the state and zip code or a failure to import state data.

To fix it, try the following steps:

  • Sign in to your account, go to the Federal section, then click on Wages and Income, find the specific institution's form in the error, and click edit to verify the recipient state is correctly entered.
  • Make sure the 2-letter state abbreviation matches the zip code.
  • If editing fails, delete the form and manually enter the data again instead of importing it.

To delete the form, follow the next steps:

  1. Sign in and open your return.
  2. Select Tax Tools in the left menu, then click Tools.
  3. Select Delete a form.
  4. Click Delete next to the form, schedule, or worksheet.
  5. Follow the instructions to confirm deletion.
