In April 2023, I filed a Federal extension with a payment, which was reflected on my 2022 Federal 1040, but unbeknownst to me, it was also reflected on my 2022 RI 1040NR form. This resulted in a larger than expected refund amount from RI, according to TT calculations.
Two months after I filed my 2022 returns, I finally received my refund, and based on what I had filed to RI, the state of RI correctly deducted the amount I typed in for $ paid with my extension to Federal.
However, as I entered it into TT as payment with extension, in my opinion, it should never have reached the RI 1040NR return. This is a software error & should be addressed to avoid it happening again.
I spoke with several TT customer service rep's who all agreed I should file a claim under the 100% accuracy calculation guarantee. I tried to do that online & it will not be taken. I am not sure I want to use a product that can mislead the consumer.
