HI

I am using TurboTax Desktop 2024 Deluxe.  I am trying to file and I am getting a Failed Validation message and a suggestion to check for online updates.  My software is up to date - help!!

You may need to manually update your software.  Here is the link to manually update your software:

Make sure you have closed TurboTax and all other programs while you run the update.

Hi - the manual update did not work.

The issues seems that some NY forms are not yet updated.

I am having the same exact issue.  Manual updates were also not helpful.
It's pretty frustrating that there isn't an ETA on when we'll be able to transmit or update to whatever file the program thinks is necessary to file.   I'm usually done with my taxes by February.

Any update?  As the others have stated, this does not help.

With the update to the software most recently, y'all should be able to file today.

For me, they said all the NY state forms were finalized about a week before they actually were, but it's all good to go now.

Is there an update for Mac OS? Having this same issue but can’t use the update linked here. Was able to transmit federal return but not NJ state.

Don’t think it has to do with mac os.  Mine is still not working for nj on windows.  It seems like the product is giving a misleading error message.  Makes you question what else it is getting wrong.  Shocking it isn’t addressed.

There is a website for Intuit that tells you the status of your individual state's forms.  Just find the ones you are trying to file and it should give you a date when they will be ready.  I waited a day after mine said they were ready and got the update (for NY state.)

Intuit Tax Form Status

Also,it is worth noting that you can file your Federal now and go back later to transmit your state returns when they're ready.

Exact same issue here, no updates available.  I always file this time of year.  Cannot understand the issue.

Can we get an actual update on this question from TT Support?

  • performing a manual update is not the correct solution
  • My state (KS) is not awaiting updates
  • continue to receive FAILED VALIDATION ERROR

WHY is this occurring?

HOW is it resolved?

Yes, I filed federal separately and had no issues. While I know I could file state via mail, I’ve already paid my filing fee to Intuit.

There are forms outstanding for NJ but they aren’t ones I need, so not sure why that would affect it this year. Just frustrating to try daily and see no change.

I had the same issue, downloaded the patch today (02/14/2025) and it worked.

I'm having the same pop up.  I've ran the manual update and it says install successful. I'm in CA, I've uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled and still doesnt work.  I'm livid. I should have been done at 10:30 and now it's midnight and my taxes still arent filed.

Here are several troubleshooting steps that you can try:

While I have been able to file my own taxes (apparently the form update was the glitch, since it was not a form I needed or requested to file)...

These instructions do not address my original question from last week—what about those of us on MacOS? A windows update does not help in that situation.

I'm having the same issue, but with OK state.  I was having the error when attempting to file both Federal and State.  I read online and found that removing State would allow Federal to be filed.  Have tried updating everything.  Attempting to download the 331 MB manual update, but it is estimating 2 days to download.  I tried calling tech support, but they were not helpful at all.  The tech thought it would be a good idea to fill out the state forms and mail them in ourselves.  I asked him why we bothered paying for Turbotax at that point.

I am using Mac OS and still have this issue. How should I fix it?

I'm in CA too and tried e-filing tonight and get the same error message.  I've manually downloaded the patch which says installed successfully.  Then tried to e-file again and still says "failure".  I already paid to e-file state too!  I really need to file both ASAP.  Please help!

So, I was having the same problem - CA user.  I had done the return on a different computer and was trying to file from another computer and was having the Failed Validation issue.  Nothing worked.  I went back to the original computer and filed and it had no problem.  I'm sure this info won't help everyone, but thought I'd share just in case.

I am also the same issues.  Never had the 'failed validation' problem efiling both federal and state around the same time (always file my taxes President's weekend).  I'm using TurboTax Deluxe online version (same one as always) for 2024.  My software is updated.  I ran the online updates several times.  I cleared my cache, cookies and browsing history several time.  Rebooted.  Nothing worked.  And yes, I already paid for efiling state return fee (CA) as well.   Can TurboTax expert assist - other than with recommendation to manually update of software that didn't work either?

An update on this - the patch worked only on efiling Federal forms.  Still not able to efile State forms (CA) which I already paid for.

If this problem persists for you, try to e-file your Federal return first without your state. You should now be able to transmit. But it may still get rejected the first time (in my case I was rejected for 1095-A). When I re-open TurboTax to fix the problem, it triggered an update for me. After that all was good. I was able to e-file both Federal and state. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response.  I stopped retrying for an hour, closed Turbo Tax after I e-filed Federal forms.  I opened Turbo Tax after the hour, it prompted me to update my 2024 software for CA returns.  CA returns were e-filed successfully afterward.

I'm currently on a call with support about this, and she has no idea how to fix it. This is the last time I'll be using TurboTax software. You have a year to prepare your software for tax season and you're unable to push out automatic software updates? Embarrassing. See y'all on HR Block next year.
