When you first open turbotax you get an option to "continue" your return, or (if you look lower on the page) "start a new return" -- select start a new return
When you use Online TurboTax, you get one return per fee. Each return needs its own account and user ID. If you use the same account and user ID for a second return, you overwrite the first one and lose it forever.
To file an additional return with TurboTax Online you would have to start a new account, with a new user id and password, and you would have to pay separately for each one. If you use the same account and user ID for a second return, you overwrite the first one.
When you use Desktop TurboTax, which you install from a CD or download to your own hard drive, you can prepare and e-file multiple returns for the cost of the software. Up to five can be e-filed. Additional returns must be printed and mailed.
