E*Trade import missing lots of transactions

Hi I have some issues importing the FULL list of transactions I have on my E*Trade 1099 form.

I have no issues log into E*Trade account on the import page and it did the import. The issue is the imported transactions list are not complete!

My account is relatively active with 500+ transactions to import and I also have some cost basis not reported to IRS ones. Previous years I never had this issue and can find all the transactions I need to adjust my cost basis for (some of them are RSU sales, ESPP sales, etc)

However, this year there seems to be some bugs. Not sure if it is because the amount of my transactions is too much? But it shouldn't be a huge issue since I did about same amount of transactions as last year.

E*Trade import missing lots of transactions

You could reach out to E*Trade.  It could be they are not putting all types of transactions out as available for import.  TurboTax computers will import whatever is there available to import.

Since you have to change the Cost Basis of your RSU/ESPP sales, you may want to enter those manually anyway.  You always have the quick and easy option to Enter a Summary in Lieu of Individual Transactions, and to make a one-line entry for totals in the 1099 INT/DIV sections.

E*Trade import missing lots of transactions

a lot of issues in the forum mainly connectivity related, someone was speculating TT changed something in their error handling and not all the partners kept up with it.  Did see some earlier posts from someone missing Treasuries from ETrade, and folks with high number of transactions on different brokers struggling.  Also issues with import on desktop that work fine online.

Not sure if you are desktop or line; you should try deleting and reimporting to see if you get the same outcome.  you could also try importing it into a dummy tax return.

Based on other threads with import issues I suspect you'll get nowhere on this between E*Trade and TT support frankly, they'll just point you to each other.  Given 4 weeks to filing deadline, if you're still stuck be prepared to just input it manually and move on.

For 1099-Bs ideally you want to input any sales with adjustments or non-covered securities as "one by one" with the details (and maybe ETrade imported these already), to avoid being asked to mail the 1099-B to the IRS which happens if you put those items in as sales summaries with adjustments.  The rest of your 1099-B can just be input simply as sales summaries for short and long term, and it will all be consolidated on Schedule D.

I suppose the other option if you know what the import missed is to put those missing items in manually at detailed or summary level.  But if the import screwed some stuff up it just seems cleaner to delete that 1099.

Personally I don't use import it's not worth the hassle and mess it creates even in a year when all is working smoothly, which 2024 is evidently not, but it depends how complex your 1099-B is.

Not a CPA/Expert just my 2 cents, hope this helps.
