E-filing Returns for Prior Years

I need to file a 2020 return asap, absolutely positively must be filed by 5/17. I elected e-file in TT and it states "E-filing is closed for the season, you can file by mail". When I click continue I am then prompted to e-file again? Can I continue the process and e-file or is this no longer available for a 2020 TY return?

E-filing Returns for Prior Years

E-filing is permanently closed for 2020.   The only way to file a 2020 return is by mail.   It will need to be postmarked by May 17, 2024 in order to get a refund for tax year 2020.

Print it, sign and date it in ink, and mail it.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
