e-filing an amended return

Hello -

It looks like e-filing is closed for the season and Turbotax is asking me to mail a paper return.

I wanted to ask if instead of mailing my amended return, can just wait until e-filing is open again in January 2024 to e-file my amended return.

This is for a 2022 amended return. Federal and State.

Has anyone been in the same situation?

When efile reopens it will only work for 2023 returns.

When I talked to TurboTax support this past week, the agent said that I would be able to e-file a 2022 amended return when the portal opens in January 2024. Not sure whether or not to believe it. It would really help to know if that is accurate, since there is a lot of conflicting information in the community forum and in TT's own software and documentation.

TT has not allowed efiling of any prior year returns in the past so I would say no but maybe they are going to allow it starting in 2024. At this time only some professional paid tax pros can efile the last 3 tax years (when allowed) but not any DIY programs. You can wait and see if you wish ... paper filed amended returns can take 4 months or more to process.

It has never been allowed in the past. Something may be changing but I personally doubt it

TT site clearly states that you can file amended returns with them. The only thing that is not clear to me what happens if the original returns were NOT prepared and filed through TT, which is my case. It seems to prepare and file an amended return is much simple and easy if you already used TT for the original returns -as it is already stored in your account / system.
