When submitting the file to the IRS, I received the response, "the submission is a duplicate of one that was previously received". I welcome any input on what this means, please.

    mimi121,

Most likely you accidentally hit the e-file button twice.  If you had e-filed and then went back and changed something, you don't re-efile, but you amend instead once you get confirmation that the return was accepted and that your refund, if any, was received.

However, there is, of course, the possibility that someone else has unlawfully filed a return using your identity.  What was the Reject Code that accompanied the message?

There was no reject code. I tried checking the status, thinking that someone may have been fraudulent with the information. As well, I feel confident that I did not submit the return erroneously because I did not receive an email stating that the return had been received.

    mimi121,

I suggest you go to https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript  to check what the IRS says it has received, processed and/or paid for 2022.  This should give you insight into whether a tax return was successfully filed for 2022 and you can compare the numbers to see if the match yours as a fraud check.  The site https://www.irs.gov/refunds  would also be a good one as fraudsters try to get a big refund.
