Solved

Tried enter "Qualifying 12 Month Period" but it reflects error. I've tried every format, and even changed the dates. I was abroad from 01/01/2011 - 04/01/2014.

No matter how I enter in the date, or what dates I enter, I am still getting the same "you did not enter a 12 month period" message. I am on a MAC trying to backfile for Tax Year 2014.

You need to enter an exact twelve months period. 01/01/2013 to 12/20/2014 is longer than 12 months. Try 21/12/2013 to 12/20/2014.

Are you trying to use the current online software to do this? (It looks like you are posting from online Deluxe) You cannot use 2016 software.  Look carefully at what that first screen you posted says about the dates.  It says the 12 month period has to include some time during the tax year--2016--and you say you are trying to file for time during 2014.

To file a return for a prior tax year

Only a 2016 return can be prepared online and e-filed.

If you need to prepare a return for 2014 or 2015 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s)

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

(if you want to prepare on paper for free:  )

You can download the Forms and Instructions from the IRS web site:

https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

Hi, thanks for your answer. I am using the 2014 software, so I do not believe that is the issue. Any other ideas?
