Double counting interest income from an imported 1099

I originally entered all my 1099s manually because the download option was not available.  Once I was able to link to my financial institution and download, I did and deleted my manual entries.  Now I'm ready to efile, but there is an error in the pdf of my tax documents.  I have a few items where interest income is double counted, so my taxable interest on my 1040 is now higher than it actually was.  The supporting forms are incorrect as well.  I've gone back through to make sure I've deleted all my manual entries and regenerated the pdf, but it's still incorrect.  Am I going to have to wipe everything and redo my taxes from scratch?  Help!

No.  You should not have to start over for this error.  You may need to delete a form from the return.  The manual form 1099-Int documents might still be lurking around in the software.  Let's try to delete a form.

Here's the general procedure for viewing a list of all the forms in your return and deleting unwanted forms, schedules, and worksheets in TurboTax Online:

  1. Sign in to TurboTax and open your return by selecting Continue or Pick up where you left off.
  2. In the left menu, select Tax Tools and then Tools.
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form.
  4. Select Delete next to the form, schedule, and worksheet in the list and follow the instructions.

Tips and tricks

  • To delete a form that came in the mail (for example, W-2, 1098, or 1099) it's best to do it from within your return. Search for the form name in the search bar (for example, W-2) and select the Jump to link in the search results to get to the summary screen. From here, you can select the trash can icon to delete.
  • You can't delete Form 1040. If you want to get rid of the information you've entered, you can clear your return.
