Do you file income from side gigs totalling $910?

I earned income from taking surveys online and captioning videos for as a freelancer for a transcription/captioning company.  I did not receive a 1099-K form. I did not make this my business. This was not my main source of income for the year. I simply earned extra income through this work. I do not own any of the businesses that paid me.

Yes, you have to enter your Gig income on your income tax return(s). This type of income is considered self-employment income by the IRS (or a business).

To enter your self-employment income not reported on a 1099-K, 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC:

  1. Open or continue your return
  2. Search for Schedule C and select the Jump to link
  3. Answer the general questions about your business (or select Review or Edit at the work summary screen)
  4. At the Let’s get income for… screen, select Other self-employed income

If you made $600 or more, contact the company or individual you worked for to request a 1099-NEC.
