No.  If you have Medicare & supplemental insurance (and did/did not receive 1095-B and 1095-C forms for your healthcare coverage), then you do not need to file them.  Just indicate that you had that type of insurance during the software interview questions.  If you do receive these forms in the future, just be sure to keep them with your other tax records in case the IRS asks for proof of coverage though.

Where is this question in the interview process?

On a 2021 tax return there is not a specific question asking if you have health insurance.

The only question asked is if you received a Form 1095-A which would have been issued to you from one of the State Marketplace Exchanges for health care coverage.  If you did not receive a Form 1095-A then just answer NO and continue.

A form 1095-B and form 1095-C are not entered on a tax return.

My return was rejected, I must not have clicked NO when asked about the 1095A

How do I change that in the 2021 return after it has been e-filed.

If the tax return was rejected for the Form 1095-A and you received a Form 1095-A, all you need to do is enter the tax data from the 1095-A and e-file the 2021 tax return again.

To enter your Form 1095-A -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Medical
  • On Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A), click the start or update button

Or enter 1095-a in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to 1095-a

I have a Medicare Supplemental plan so I don't have a 1095-A  but Turbo Tax doesn't allow me to say it is not required.

Okay... then try this workaround to delete the Form 1095-A.

Answer Yes to having a Form 1095-A.  Enter some fake information on the form and some numbers in a couple of the boxes for January.

Then click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen.

Then click on Tools

Then click on Delete a form

Delete the Form 1095-A and the Form 8962.

You should be able to e-file the 2021 tax return again in the File section of the program.

I went to Deductions and the Affordable Care Act, clicked on "No, I didn't receive Form 1095-A but return still failed. Somewhere there must be something that is marked yes to Marketplace Insurance but I have Medicare. What form is that on?
