If your spouse died in 2018, you may be able to file as a Qualifying Widow if you have a child you claim as a dependent on your tax return. If you do not have a child, you would file as Single. 

 

If your spouse died in 2019, you can still file Married Filing Jointly and that would be the best filing status for you.
