Do I need to report code AA in box 12 of W2?

I was wondering if code AA to box 12 (401(k) Roth) of the W2 makes any difference to the end numbers? (This is for CA state tax returns, just in case)

Yes, it might make a difference.  The contribution might qualify you for a Retirement Savings Contributions Credit.  To be sure that your Roth 401(k) contribution is being considered for the credit, you must make the code AA entry only in box 12 of TurboTax's W-2 form, nowhere else in TurboTax.  I don't think it affect a California tax return at all.

So I should report this in my federal tax return, but not the state tax return?

By entering making the code AA entry in box 12 of TurboTax's W-2 form, TurboTax will automatically use the value in preparing Form 8880 if you qualify for the deduction.  TurboTax will also automatically carry any necessary information to your California tax return, but I don't think that the code AA amount falls in the category of necessary information.

Yes, you should report code AA (Designated Roth contributions under a section 401(k) plan) in box 12 on your Form W-2.

Thanks for your answer. Isn't Roth 401K NOT deductible? Will it make a difference if I don't report it?
