I was wondering if code AA to box 12 (401(k) Roth) of the W2 makes any difference to the end numbers? (This is for CA state tax returns, just in case)

Yes, it might make a difference. The contribution might qualify you for a Retirement Savings Contributions Credit. To be sure that your Roth 401(k) contribution is being considered for the credit, you must make the code AA entry only in box 12 of TurboTax's W-2 form, nowhere else in TurboTax. I don't think it affect a California tax return at all.

Yes, you should report code AA (Designated Roth contributions under a section 401(k) plan) in box 12 on your Form W-2.
