Do I need to enter the the Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) for each payer of 1099-DIV dividends?

I'm double checking each dividend entry and find that TT prompts me for the FEIN of companies I imported electronically.  That's ok and it's automatically populated.  However it doesn't ask for the FEIN for companies I manually added.  Why is this happening and is it necessary for the FEIN to be there?

Yes, the FEIN is necessary.  If you are not prompted for it when making your manual entries, it will probably come up as an Error in the Federal Review later.

If you have the FEIN, you should include it in your manual entries.

The reason why I am posting is that I can't add the FEINs in the manual entries.  No errors occur on review.
