Hi, I entered US on 07/28/2013 on F1 Visa. I got my H1b last year on 02/03/2018. I was on OPT till 02/02/2018. What would be my tax filing alien status?
What does 'current year' mean in substantial presence test? is it 2018 or 2019?. If its 2018 then I was 332 days on h1b last year or resident alien for tax purposes. I was in the US for the whole 2017 and 2016. I am totally confused here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You will be a resident for tax purposes.
"Current year" means the current tax year, which is 2018. As an F-1 visa holder, you are a nonresident for five years 2013-2017. Starting from January 1, 2018, if you stay more than 183 days including being on both the F and H-1B visa, you will be a resident.
