Didn't receive at 1095A. I did get a 1099-HC. Why do I need 1095A?

You will only need a 1095-A if you had Marketplace health insurance and need to enter information for the Premium Tax Credit. Your 1099-HC is your confirmation of the months you were covered and you will need to enter information in from this form in your state return.

Please return to the Health Insurance section and follow these instructions, if you did not have Marketplace or a 1095-A.  Turbo Tax will walk you through the questions for health insurance.

  • Click on the Federal Taxes tab and select Health Insurance
  • When asked if you had health insurance in 2016, select either all year or you will pick who and what months, and Continue.
  • When asked about being enrolled in any of these less common plans in 2016, select No, if you were covered through your work or state coverage..  The 1099-HC does not need to be entered into your federal return.

I just filed my taxes last night and today my 1095a came in which I didn’t know I was getting. What happens now and how does that affect my completed filing for 2020? Am I going to get audited for that mistake?

Once a tax return has been filed it cannot be changed, canceled or retrieved

You will have to wait for the IRS to start accepting or rejecting 2020 tax returns on February 12, 2021
If the return is rejected you can make the necessary changes and e-file again.
If the return is accepted you will have to amend your original tax return. An amended return, Form 1040X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS, it cannot be e-filed. The IRS will take up to 16 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.

Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.

See this TurboTax support FAQ on amending a tax return originally completed and filed using the 2020 TurboTax online editions - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/amending/help/how-do-i-amend-my-turbotax-online-return/01/27577

Will I owe money if I amend?

There is no way to know if you will owe or get a refund until you complete the amended tax return.
