Hi,

My son left for the military [boot camp] July 27, 2023, after graduating  May '23 at 18 y/o. Lived with me all year. Turned 19 there.

Can I claim him for this year since I supported him over half the yr until he left?

TIA

Since your son was in school full time until graduating in May, he would qualify as your dependent, and you can claim him, if you paid for more than half of his support during the year.

Make sure your son knows that you will claim him so that when he files his own return he will say on his return that he can be claimed as someone else's dependent.
