I claimed my nephew on my return. He lived in our home for almost 7 months and I paid more than 1/2 of his support. I received my refund. His mother then filed her tax return claiming him as well but she didn't meet the requirements and she was told I claimed him. The IRS letter said if the ss number is correct I don't have to do anything. How do I make sure this matter is cleared up?

If he did not live with the mother more than half the year, she cannot claim him.    You will need to satisfy the IRS that the child did indeed live with you and not the mother for  mother than half the year.   I would start by calling the IRS number that should be on the notice for more information  and ask what kind of proof they will accept.
