My wife passed away in Nov 2024.  I filed a joint return in 2024.  My wife had a trust account that I terminated in 2025.  It had eaned considerable income in 2025 before it was terminated.  Can I use turbo Tax to file a return for the terminated trust??

I am very sorry for your loss.

If you need to file a 1041 for the trust, you would need to use TurboTax Business (which only supports returns for entities, such as estates and trusts, but not personal income tax returns).

See https://turbotax.intuit.com/small-business-taxes/cd-download

Also, hopefully you applied for an EIN for the trust.

If you are the only beneficiary of the trust, then sometimes it is allowed to report the income on your tax return as "income in respect of a decedent."  But I don't know if this is applicable in your specific situation.  You may want to read publication 559 on survivors, executors and administrators.

IRD would NOT apply to a trust that is irrevocable or has become irrevocable, and a separate entity. So, the correct answer in that case would be never and not sometimes.

The concept is applicable to individual decedents and their estates.
