I am just another user/customer who buys Turbotax each year and then files. I use a boxed copy on CD.
My State (California) has always charged a $25 E-File fee as long as I can remember (more than 15 years).
The fed dropped the E-File fee a few years ago (and that seems smart - why do we pay for something that is
more efficient and convenient for all involved).
The idea that Fed used to and states still do charge a fee for e-File is kinda ridiculous.
Anyway - you got charged because the States charges it, not Turbotax.
Hope tat answer helps.
TurboTax/Intuit suffer from typical advertising/marketing shenanigans in that they do not make this clear
on the package or advertising - they use words like *FREE* E-File and in small print for Fed only.
As if they are doing something special or free, they are not . It was free anyway, for Fed.
And is was always a pay for state, but they should just make it clear on the package, states charge, the fed is doing this for free. Intuit Turbotax has a ways to go in the honesty in advertising part.
