Cost Basis

I have owned a stock for quite a few years. The stock is in my name only. If I die, what would be the cost basis for my spouse? Would it be the price of the stock on my date of death?

Cost Basis

Yes, if your wife inherits that stock from you, her cost basis will be the fair market value of that stock on the date of your death (stepped-up basis).
