So my question is this. I'm a waitress and don't really make much as it is. I paid taxes and filed before the tax thing happened.  I spoke with someone (tax specialist through the turbo app who said I'm due a refund on my unemployment taxes. Then about 2 was ago I finally got ahold of someone from IRS who said that I received all the credits that were available so I'm not due a refund.  Now this makes no sense because bottom line is,  I paid for something that I really didn't have to...

10,200 worth of taxes.  I'm HOH, 1 DEPENDENT and my AGI is 23,000

How much of your 2020 income was from unemployment and how much from wages.  You can send me a personal message on this site with those figures and I will do some research for you.

If you had unemployment withheld from your unemployment, then that withholding is what would have been refunded to you.  If you did not take withholding, then you would not get any refund.

If you had had tax withheld at 10%, then you would get a $1900 refund because you would have been forgiven that tax.  But if you had no withholding on the unemployment then there would be nothing to refund,.
