If you downloaded a complete copy of your return including the worksheets, you should be able to confirm what you entered as far as payment method; i.e., whether you selected to pay from a bank account, credit card, etc. and the date.
When you receive notice that your return was successfully filed, this confirms that the payment information you entered was received by the IRS.
To confirm whether and when the payment was made, you would need to check your bank or credit card account.
If you have an online account with the IRS, you can check that account to verify your payment was processed successfully. Check your online tax account two business days after the date you scheduled the payment to be withdrawn from your bank account. Your online tax account will indicate whether a payment attempt was rejected.
Thanks so much! I was able to confirm what day my state taxes will come out because there is a CA Online e-file Return Authorization form that has the date on it. For my federal taxes there isn't a similar form and there isn't even a payment voucher - only estimated tax vouchers. I wonder if that's because the IRS already knows that they will be withdrawing my payment on a specific date.
