Confirmation from the IRS

Hello! I filed my taxes in January and was informed that I had to mail them in. I mailed them in early February but as of now, September, I have never received some type of confirmation that they were received. I mailed them from Germany and so I am worried that they were somehow lost and that's why I never received a confirmation. This is my first time having to mail them so I have no experience, do you usually get some type of confirmation?

Thanks for the help!

Confirmation from the IRS

If you used a mailing service that has tracking then your confirmation that the mail was delivered to the IRS would come from the mailing service. The IRS does not do anything to confirm for you that they received your tax return.   The only way to know if the IRS is processing your return is to look on the IRS refund site.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2022 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

If you are not seeing anything on the refund site by now---many months later-- then chances are that the IRS did not receive your mailed return and you should re-send it.   If you send it again, make sure you use a service that will track it for you and give you a confirmation that it was delivered.
