The submitted CA state tax return was corrected by CA FTB with a refund check due to a coding error in the Turbotax desk top version. If line 29 of Sch CA(540NR) is zero, $4,803 standard deduction should be entered on line 30 as the larger of the amount on line 29 or the standard deduction of $4,803 for single filer. No such error occurred in the 2020 version, as line 30 has the deduction entered when line 29 is zero. Entry for line 30 cannot be changed even when the error is clearly there. This error should be fixed for the extension deadline coming up and not repeated for the 2022 version.

I talked to tech support today for 90 minutes and he agreed to the coding error in the 2021 version. It is up to Turbotax to recognize the error and correct it. My tax was filed and agreed to by CA FTB with a refund on the coding mistake I posted. This thread is just to let everyone know the existing issue and that an filer cannot correct it if filing electronically.
