Question

Claim myself

I let my brother claim me on taxes this year and I filed mine. I honestly can’t remember if I checked the box that someone could claim me. I don’t want him in trouble for my mistake. How can I find out if I checked that box?

If you had not checked the box and your brother already e-filed and his return was accepted, then your e-file attempt would have been rejected by the IRS.

If you e-filed before your brother and did not check the box, then of course your return would be accepted. Then when your brother tried to e-file claiming you, his return would have been rejected.

Look at your federal tax return Form 1040 and see if the box is checked for being a dependent.
