Hi,
I'm trying to file my taxes and right before it transmits it wants to review everything and a message pops up saying:
"Check this Entry: 1040/1040SR wks: Charitable contributions: Charitable contributions has an unacceptable value"
It has a number listed followed by a period. If I remove the period the error still appears. The only thing that seems to work is if I completely remove the number but then my refund amount changes. How do I fix this?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Some TurboTax Online customers are experiencing an issue when trying to enter their charitable cash donations when claiming the Standard Deduction.
If you’re receiving the error check message, enter the amount of donations you made up to the maximum limit per your filing status.
For Married Filing Jointly, the maximum amount to claim is $600. For Single filers, the maximum amount to claim is $300.
Thank you for your response. I'm using the Mac version for my desktop. I am currently filing Married Filing Jointly and the amount in the box is $300. Am I filing it correctly or should I change it?
It depends. You should change it to $600 if you donated $600 or more during the year.
If you entered your donations into the 'Deductions and Credits" section of TurboTax and then ended up taking the standard deduction you may have to go back and delete the donations that you entered there and then enter the $600 amount. There have been some hang-ups where the TurboTax program seems to want to enter the actual amount that you donated into that $600 space and it creates the error you received.
