If you do not itemize deductions, can you still claim cash contributions in 2025?

I entered cash contributions, under Deductions and Credits, and hit done. It goes to the next page and reads “Thanks we got your donation info. Right now the standard deduction saves you the most on your taxes.” Also. It does not list the donations on the Deductions and Credits screen.

No, the charity donation above the line begins with 2026. Each taxpayer can claim up to $1,000 without having to itemize. For 2025, donations are part of itemized deductions.

So when you say 2026, you mean tax-year 2026, on the tax return we will submit next calendar year, in 2027, is that right?

Thanks, mykl

Yes, it means that any donations you make in 2026.  You will be able to claim up to $1,000 single and $2,000 if you are married filing joint, without itemizing on your 2026 return that you will file in 2027.
