Getting ready to efile - turbo indicates on Fidelity's 1099R (both) that amount shown on box 14, state tax w/h can't be greater than what is in box 16 State Distribution.  The boxes on both 1099R are empty. I checked prior years and the same holds true.............HELP

@nztsv8vix It makes sense that the tax can't be greater than the distribution. In your case, both zero, should not be a problem. I suggest you go back and edit your 1099-R forms and just delete the zeroes. Blank boxes should not calculate in the formula.

To edit 1099-R:

  • You can sign in to your return.
  • Go to Federal,
  • Wages and Income.
  • Scroll down to Retirement Plans
  • Edit the 1099-R.

1099-R is for retirement information. There have been no changes to the form or instructions this year. See:
