Can we claim our 36 yr. old incarcerated son on our taxes

If he was incarcerated for a significant part of 2016 then no, you cannot claim him as your dependent.  He is being supported by the penal institution where he resides.

Any money that you are sending him would be considered a gift, and gifts are not deductible.
