I really have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to filing my taxes.  I just want help to make sure I'm doing it right.  And getting back what I should be able to.

To make sure you are completing your taxes correctly, go through each step.

TurboTax will walk you through everything. Start with My Info. Answer every question honestly.

If you don't understand a question, come back to this forum or click one of the help buttons in the program.

Continue to Federal. Even if something doesn't apply to you, read the information to confirm.

If your tax situation is more complicated than can be done through the Free Edition, you may need to upgrade. Don't pay for an upgrade until you have confirmed through questions that you need it. Common reasons for upgrade are itemized deductions and school expense credits. 

If you live in a state with income tax, the program will import your entries from your federal return to your state. State follow many of the federal laws, but each as unique tax credits and income deductions for which you may qualify. Again, don't skip a step to make sure you are not missing something.

The TurboTax program has your back and so do the posters on this forum.

It can take up to 15 minutes for the code to be emailed to you. Please don’t try to get a new code too soon as it will invalidate the old code and you’ll end up waiting longer.
